It has long been surmised that George Smith's wife was Caroline Stevens. However, evidence has now come to light that the George Smith that married Caroline Stevens had a father named Henry Smith, not Robert Smith so although George and Caroline lived near our ancestors, they were actually our ancestors. So unless there has been an error in ancestry (see below), Caroline's father isn't our line.

George Smith was born in 12 November 1840 in Burghfield (pronounced Berf-field), Berkshire, England to Lucy Dore (nee Smith) and Robert Smith. George was baptised on the 6 December 1840 at Saint Mary's Church, Burghfield, Berkshire, England. He was the first born child to them.
English census' at show the following:
1841 - Aged 7 months - living with parents Lucy (aged 21) and father Robert (aged 22). Robert is listed as an Agricultural Labourer.
1851 - Aged 10 - Living with his parents Lucy (aged 31) and father Robert (aged 32) and siblings Henry (aged 8) and Martha (aged 5). They are living next door to the Dore's.
1861 - Aged 20 - Living in Burghfield Common, Berkshire, England with wife Caroline and son William (aged 1). They are living next to his grandparents Joseph and Elizabeth Dore. George is listed as a Labourer. He is listed as a Labourer and Coal ?.
They had 5 children:
4 April 1860 - William married Susah Ann Durman
2 April 1862 - Henry Albert married Diana Hamblin
28 January 1864 - Martha
31 October 1869 - Charles - NEVER MARRIES
1876 - Ada Elizabeth married Charles Henry Lewis
26 June 1869 - Reading Mercury Newspaper - On Wednesday, George Smith, of Burghfield, was run over by a van going to London with furniture, and also had his leg broken. Taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital.
George's mother Lucy dies on 10 March 1900.
1901 - Aged 60 - Living at 7 Trinity Place, Reading, St Mary's. This census shows Caroline as being born at Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire. George is listed as a Railway Labourer. Living with wife Caroline and son Charles (31, single and a Railway Labourer).
1911 - Aged 70 - Living at 7 Trinity Place, Oxford Road, Reading. This census shows him listed as a Retired Platelayer living with wife Caroline, son Charles (41, single, working in a biscuit factory) and a married lodger named Ada Lewis is also living with them. Ada Lewis is George and Caroline's daughter (Ada Elizabeth Smith 1875-1933, who married Charles Henry Lewis at Reading, Berkshire June quarter 1894).
George Smith was buried at London Road Cemetery, consecrated ground, Reading, Berkshire, England on 11 May 1923, aged 82 years. His residential address at the time was 7 Trinity Place, Reading. This wife Caroline died on 18 December 1930.

1891 - Aged 50 - Living at 7 Trinity Place, Reading, St Mary's. This census shows Caroline as being born at Wraysbury, Buckinghamshire, but it is in fact in Berkshire. George listed as a Platelayer. Living with them is Martha (27 and Tailoress), Charles (21 and Labourer Factory) and Ada (16 and Servant).
George's father Robert dies on 2 April 1895.
George's mother Lucy dies on 10 March 1900.
