Smith Family Reunion - 5 August 1973

Held at Glandore Oval, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

Extract:

"Welcome to the first official family reunion of the descendants of Joseph and Eliza Smith.

The format of the afternoon is essentially casual to allow those who wish to have a chat with relatives plenty of time.

If you have omitted to do so, would you please obtain a name tag with the appropriate family coloured ribbon for identification.  Tags are available in boxes at the door.

Colours signifying the various family lines are:

Lucy Ashmeade        Yellow
Charlie Smith            White
Ern Smith                  Red
Horace Smith            Blue
Len Smith                 Pink
Edie Doubtfire          Green
Ruby Doubtfire         Mauve
George Smith           Orange

On display, you will find a number of photographs, letters and items of interest, and the Family Tree.

Regarding the Family Tree, it is realised that in some cases names may be misspelt or wrongly placed.  However, it has been drawn up after contacting a member of each family and is the best that can be produced at the time.  Should you be able to identify either a mistake, spelling alteration or omission, would you please use the note paper to advise same.

Two books are available near the door.

One is a visitors' book which you are urged to sign; the other is provided for persons who can offer information or who are interested in continuing research for the family lines prior to Joseph.

It is envisaged that a long and time consuming investigation will be required with most investigations centred in Berkshire, England.

About 3pm there will be a roll call of Grandsons and Granddaughters of Joseph and you are asked to be seated during this period.  When your name is called, please stand up so that you may be identified.  A short resume of investigations into Joseph's and Eliza's background will follow.

To cover out of pocket expenses, including the hire of this Hall, a donation box is available at the door.  The amount sought is about $40.00.  No actual collection will be taken, but you are asked to show your appreciation through this.

Thank you for your attendance.  It is hoped that the time spent amongst your relatives has been beneficial and worthwhile.  It is hoped that the next family reunion will be held in two years time when it will be the Centenary of the arrival in Australia of Joseph and Eliza."
