Henry Dore (1862 - ) NEERIM MAN



Henry Dore was born in 1862 to parents Henry Dore and Charlotte Dore (nee Day) in Burghfield, Berkshire, England.

In 1871, Henry Dore, aged 9, is living with his parents Henry (aged 45) and Charlotte (aged 29) and siblings Anne (14), Albert (12), Elizabeth (8), Noah (6), Ellen (4), Rhoda (3) and George (1) on the Common at Burghfield, Berkshire, England.  Henry's father Henry is a Labourer. Also on the Common is Henry's Uncle James who is a shoemaker.

In 1881, Henry Dore is not living with his parents.  He is 19 and living at Kingston Road, New Ponds, Leatherhead, Surrey.  He is a Potman (a man employed in a public house to collect empty pots or glasses; a waiter in a similar establishment).  A lodger, he is living with Samuel and Susannah Hopkins and their nephew Samuel G Clowes.

Between 1881 and 1894, Henry emigrated to Australia.

I have found reference to three Dore's arriving in New South Wales, Australia on 28 June 1889 on the ship Durham from London.  The names are Henry Dore, H Dore and ? Dore and they are in 3rd class steerage.

On 26 November 1894, Henry married Sarah Ann Bird at 430 Bourke Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At the time Sarah Ann Bird was from Allen's Flat, Victoria, Australia.

They had 10 children.
